Meck, Sonia

Sonia Meck’s involvement with The Salvation Army began when she was a high school student more than 50 years ago as a worshiper at the Salvation Army in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Sonya recalls the many, many years of joyous service. In fact had it not been for meeting her husband, Sonia was headed for Salvation Army officership.

After marrying and moving to Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Meck jumped in and for decades served on the Canton Advisory Board and kept the Christmas Toyshop abuzz with the voices of volunteers. One of her proudest possessions is the “Others” award, the highest award for a Salvation Army volunteer, which she received in recognition of her outstanding volunteerism.

In addition to serving with The Salvation Army, she has served as the Hall of Fame Pageant Chairperson, Canton Fine Arts Associate, the Timken Mercy Service League and a host of other services. Her bequest gift will be used specifically in the Canton, Ohio and Pottsville, Pennsylvania Salvation Army Corps.
